Kamala Harris: ‘I’m Very Concerned that the Supreme Court Is Going to Revisit … the Issue of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act’

‘We have to be honest about issues like xenophobia, racism, homophobia and sexism’

EXCERPT:

HARRIS: “Everyone has to understand that it is to our collective benefit to figure out how we’re going to get through this and retain any modicum of connection to the ideals of America and to the promise of America. We’ve got some real deep work to do. And to your point, this includes being honest about issues like xenophobia and racism and homophobia and sexism. It’s not about running away from it. It — you know, I was just talking to someone today about, I’m very concerned that the Supreme Court is going to revisit the issue of the Voting Rights Act and Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which basically gives — still gives us, right, whatever is left with the Voting Rights Act powers, the ability to challenge voting laws that are basically racist, an intent — an intent that targets specific communities, and to suppress or discourage their vote. And in order for — and I’m sure that what — part of what the courts announce is going to be, we don’t need that anymore.”
