Merkley: ‘ICE Is Operating as a Secret Police in America’

MERKLEY: "You know, Rev, we laid out such reasonable reforms, reforms that are so important. Like, the ICE is operating as a secret police in America. And I don’t say that that lightly. What secret police do, they show up without ID, in unmarked vans, without warrants, they knock down doors, they take people, they detain people, they disappear people. All of that is happening here in the United States right now. So the reforms we asked for were to end that, to end the roving patrols, to end the warrantless break-ins, to establish ID, the standards for normal police in a democratic republic. And the Republicans have absolutely rejected those reforms.”
