U.S. Trade Rep. Amb. Greer on Going to Congress Amid Tariff Loss: In Some Ways, Congress Has Already Preapproved These Types of Authorities

‘We’re happy to talk to them about it, but we’re not going to stop our program’

EXCERPT:

GREER: “First of all, Congress has already put out statutes allowing the president to impose tariffs. And tariffs have been in place under those types of statutes for -- for many years at this point. So, in some ways, Congress has already pre-approved these types of authorities. I'm happy to have conversations with Congress about how to legislate the president's trade program. And I have had, you know, conversations like that already, and there is some interest. And so we're happy to talk to them about it, but we're not going to stop our program. We'll just use the congressional authorities they've extended already for now.”
