GOP Rep. Lawler: Mamdani Ran on Affordability and Two Months Into His Term He’s Already Stabbing New Yorkers in the Back
EXCERPT:
LAWLER: “Since Mike Bloomberg left as New York City Mayor at the end of 2013, New York City has increased its budget by $40 billion. That is a 50 percent increase in spending in just 12 years. This is why the city is losing its tax base and now he's not only talking about raising taxes by $9 billion statewide and forcing Governor Hochul to bend the knee to him, he is talking about a 9.5 percent property tax increase and raiding a retiree health fund. So as Democrats attack Republicans in Washington and say that, you know, we are providing tax cuts to billionaires and cutting health care, number one, they're lying. Number two, I actually fought to lift the cap on SALT so that people can deduct their state and local taxes. He wants to increase people's property taxes. He wants increase it by 9.5 percent which will impact black and brown families in Queens, Southeast Queens will be dramatically harmed by that, in Staten Island, where it's primarily single-family residential homes, these folks will be forced out. And this is a major problem. He ran on affordability and within two months he is already stabbing New Yorkers in the back.”
