Queens Borough President Donovan Richards on Mamdani’s Threats to Raise Property Taxes: ‘You’re Going to Force People Out of Their Homes’

‘Really setting back generational wealth’

EXCERPT:

RICHARDS: “Well, we saw the foreclosure crisis. Where did it peak at? Foreclosure crisis always peaked in southeast Queens. So, without a doubt, you’re pushing people out of their home. And even as we talk about a pathway to affordable housing and a pathway to ownership, there — it’s hard to buy a home now, so you’re really setting back generational wealth and you’re going to force people out of their homes. And we know, we’ve already seen what happened in 2008. The southeast Queens was hit hard, extremely hard.”
