Vaughn Hillyard on the Senate Race: Trump Knows That a Dem Could Win in November, to Maintain the Majority, You Have to Hold on to Texas

‘This is a three-way primary at this point on the Republican side’

EXCERPT:

HILLYARD: “John Cornyn has been senator for 24 years, but Ken Paxton has been attorney general for 10 years. And you could make a documentary out of his decade in Texas politics. He was first indicted back in 2015, and it was literally in 2024 that he settled felony security fraud charges. Instead of going to trial just three weeks before trial and potentially having to serve prison time, he settled for $300,000 and agreement to take ethics classes. Yet this man has won time and again his reelection bids for attorney general. And so he could very well pull off not only this primary victory, but in what could be a very competitive November race. You go to Ted Cruz, he beat Beto O'Rourke back in 2022 by -- 2018 by two and a half percentage points. So Democrats see an opening on the Senate side. But if you go back to 2024, Donald Trump did beat Kamala Harris by 14 points. So the math is very difficult, and that's why Democrats want Ken Paxton to be that candidate that they go up against.”
