LEAVITT: "President Trump has been and always will be on the side of the American people. He wants our government to remain open. Unfortunately, it appears that Democrats are barreling our government towards another shutdown for political and partisan reasons. The White House has been very much engaged with Democrats in serious discussions and negotiations over immigration enforcement policy. In fact, we have not only sent counter-proposals, but actual legislative text to Capitol Hill in the hopes of coming to an agreement to avoid this shutdown. But Democrats have left Washington, and now the brave men and women of our United States Coast Guard, of FEMA, who are still helping Americans turn their lights on from the recent winter storm, and the men and women of TSA that work diligently to keep our airports moving and keep flights efficiently going, are going to go without a paycheck.”
