John Miller Praises Google Engineers for Finding Guthrie Footage: ‘It Was Never Meant to Be Found’
EXCERPT:
MILLER: “The problem is, with every Nest camera in America, it all goes into the same bin. How do you locate that footage from those cameras that is at the bottom of some pile that‘s about to be erased? You know, you serve a subpoena, you do a preservation order, saying, don‘t erase anything until we start looking for this, but it‘s really a needle in a haystack, which is why it took them that number of days to recover it. Because it was — it was never meant to have anything happen to it except to be recorded over with everything else in that pile. And if it was easy to locate it, especially if it was a recording subscription where they could have gone into the account and just pulled it up, it might have happened on the first day. A lot of work went into this, and the result was truly remarkable because by the design of their own system, it was never meant to be found. They engineered that.”
