Brit Hume Says U.S. Congress People Are ‘Underpaid’

‘Similarly responsible jobs in the private sector would pay much more’

HUME: “Yeah, it is, Bret. And, you know, it is certainly the case that people get suspicious when members of Congress get rich while in office, especially if they get rich in what seems to people like a big hurry. But there’s a broader issue here, as you suggest, and that is, you know, these members of Congress, $174,000 sounds like a lot of money. But, you know, people, these people have to live in two places, basically, here and wherever their home base is, they have to travel back and forth. It’s not a — it’s not an Easy Life, really, particularly if you’re in the House of Representatives and you have to run for re-election every two years. And we really don’t — you know, they haven’t gotten a raise in 10 years.”
