Sen. Mark Kelly: Don Lemon’s Arrest Is ‘Right Out of the Authoritarian Playbook’; ‘Go After People for Showing Up and Peacefully Protesting’
RUSH EXCERPT:
KELLY: "Very. I mean, this is right out of the authoritarian playbook. Go after people for what they say. Go after people for showing up and peacefully protesting, going after journalists. This isn’t just about like in the case of me. It’s not just about me. There are 2 million retired veterans. If they can shut me up, those people are going to think about what they’re going to say. I’m actually already hearing it. It’s already having an effect. Think about Don Lemon for a second. The horrendous thing that happened to him. I mean, arrested by the government for doing his job, for being a journalist, for giving the American people the information that is necessary for them to make decisions. And now he’s in jail and he faces prosecution. They’re not doing this just because it’s Don Lemon. They’re doing this for the chilling effect it will have on all journalists, on getting them to back off. Maybe they decide, okay, I’m not going to write that story. I’m not going to show up at this place to report on this government."
