Carol Leonnig on Tom Homan’s Bribery Scandal: He Seemed to Arrange Contracts for Businesspeople in the Future Trump Admin
EXCERPT:
LEONNIG: “It's really interesting because the meeting where the Trump transition team got this warning was days before the inauguration. And it was DOJ and career officials who had been basically champing at the bit to try to warn Trump's incoming team before they arrived that Tom Homan had this very significant criminal investigation hanging over his head. And fortunately it was weeks after Trump had already publicly announced that he was naming Tom Homan as his border czar in a senior White House position. DOJ and FBI officials believed that it was very unlikely, very doubtful, that Tom Homan could get a security clearance to actually do this job based on an FBI background check that would have uncovered that he had been under investigation and recorded by undercover FBI agents accepting $50,000 in cash as part of what appeared to be an effort to solicit bribes to arrange contracts for business people in the future Trump administration.”
