John Heilemann: Hamas Still an ‘Armed Death Cult’ and Lasting Peace Requires Sustained U.S. Leadership

‘People who have experience in the region saying with the war is not even over yet’

EXCERPT:

HEILEMANN: “You know Hamas, Joe, much diminished, but still there, still armed and still with their network of tunnels that is as big as the New York subway system. And -- and you know we've heard in the last couple days when -- when those -- when people were both rightfully celebratory of the of the ceasefire, but also people who have experience in the region saying the war is not even over yet let alone have we -- are we on the way yet towards any kind of a lasting or broader peace in the Middle East. And the people who would say that would say, you know American leadership, American perseverance, determined, focused, detailed and that of its international allies is not just -- it is going to be required over the long term but it's really essential in the short term because that -- a death cult before October 7th, a death cult on October 7th, and still a death cult after October 7th and an armed death cult, much diminished but still there.”
