Ben Ferguson on Argentina Bailout: It’s ‘America First’ Because You Need Allies Around the World
EXCERPT:
FERGUSON: "I think it‘s America first because you need allies around the world. I also think you have a lot of American investment in this country and you have to protect that investment of Americans that have gone down there and invested, and I think that‘s the second part of this. And if you look at how much money we put into that country, I‘m talking about businesses, it‘s significant. So I think there‘s a play there. And I also think the president understands that if America does pull out and we don‘t have allies like this in that part of the world, other countries that don‘t like us are going to come in. Specifically, China is a great example of that. You‘ve got Venezuela down there. You have Brazil down there. They‘re obviously the opposite of America. They hate Israel, for example. They‘ve been talking a lot about how they like other allies in their sphere that are literally enemies of the United States of America. So I think this is him saying, 'Look, you‘ve got to have allies. You stand with your friends and we‘re going to stand with you on this one.'"
