Walter Isaacson on W.H. Push for Intel Stake: You’re Seeing What Is Really State Capitalism

‘— Where the government is interfering in all sorts of ways in corporate decisions’

EXCERPT:

ISAACSON: “This is really kind of odd. When you see everybody from the 'Fortune' magazine piece that Jeffrey Seidenfeld and the former CEOs of Xerox and Procter & Gamble wrote or 'The Wall Street Journal' editorial board, you're seeing where there's really state capitalism here, where the government is interfering in all sorts of ways in corporate decisions, whether it be, you know, pricing, whether it be Coca-Cola, whether it be Intel and taking -- maybe taking a stake in it. And that type of state capitalism, it often evolves into crony capitalism, where you have favored companies and industries, those that pay tribute to the leader. And that is a recipe for not only disaster, but just sort of a corrupt sense of messiness.”
