Eugene Robinson: Big Part of MAGA Coalition Would Be Very Angry If Trump Drags Us Into the War
EXCERPT:
ROBINSON: "No, absolutely. That’s true. And they were brought to that belief, to that conviction by Donald Trump. I mean, this is what he said so consistently and it’s — "
SCARBOROUGH: "Well, and they made fun of — Donald Trump’s made fun of George W. Bush, as I point out, for 22 years for going into Iraq."
ROBINSON: "Absolutely. And he, you know, he says this was a terrible decision to do, and he would — he basically promised he would never do such a thing, and there is a big, important part of the MAGA coalition that wants to hold him to his word. So, that’s not ever going away, and they will be very angry, I think, if the president does get the United States involved. And I think he is very conflicted on that philosophical question. Even if you get past the question of how effective a U.S. attack would be, I think he is deeply reluctant to cross that Rubicon, to start what could be a forever war, to answer the question, okay, what after you hit Fordow, you know, what is the day after like? I don't think he wants to be answering those questions for the next three years."
