Rep. Malliotakis: It Is Within Congress’ ‘Constitutional Authority’ to Declare War, We Haven’t Received Intel Briefings
EXCERPT:
MALLIOTAKIS: “It is within Congress‘s constitutional authority to be the ones that do declare war. The president has limited powers here. He can do, in isolated or targeted strike, he can send troops to a region as a deterrent. There are certain things that he can do, and that‘s what he‘s weighing. And obviously, the members of Congress, we have not yet received an intelligence classified briefing, so we‘re dealing with limited information than what the president is right now. We don‘t have the full picture just yet. And obviously, before any vote of that magnitude, we would need all the information."
PHILLIP: "I mean, that‘s very telling, though, that you guys haven‘t been even briefed."
MALLIOTAKIS: "Which I think is disturbing. I think that‘s disturbing, that the speaker has not called us back to be briefed, or at least given us, even if it was a non-classified briefing over the last couple of days."
