Sky News: U.K. Gov’t Threatens to Sue Roman Abramovich If He Does Not Transfer $3.4B from the Sale of the Chelsea F.C. to Zelensky

‘That money remains frozen in a U.K. bank account after the Russian oligarch was sanctioned and forced to sell the club because of his alleged links to Putin’

EXCERPT:

HARRIS: "Yes, this impasse been going on for three years, it was May 2022 that Chelsea was sold to Todd Boehly and Clearlake , a consortium. That was part of a process that was overseen by the government here, then it was the government to sell the club. It was an enforced sale after Abramovich was sanctioned in March of 2022, after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Now, at the time, Roman Abramovich said he hoped for the proceeds of the sale to go to all victims of the war in Ukraine. That implied Russian victims, as well. But the government, both Tory and now Labour governments, have been certain that it should be used to help the reconstruction of Ukraine and for the victims of the war in Ukraine. So now they’re still open to negotiations, but they have threatened this legal action. And we’ve been hearing this morning from the Defense Secretary, John Healey."
