Dr. Peter Hotez: I Expect We’ll Have a Fourth Major Coronavirus in the Next Few Years
‘And it’s happening because there’s viruses are circulating, bats are coming into closer contact with people due to climate change and urbanization’
TRANSCRIPT:
HOTEZ: "You know, we’ve had now three major coronavirus epidemics in this century. You had the original severe acute respiratory syndrome SARS in 2001 and then Middle Eastern respiratory syndrome in 2012, now Covid-19 starting in 2019 and just maybe winding down just now. So we know that this is going to be a big issue. And it’s happening because there’s viruses are circulating, bats are coming into closer contact with people due to climate change and urbanization. So that’s gonna have to be addressed as well, because I I’m expecting we will have a fourth major coronavirus probably in the next few years, given that current pace."
