Ross Sorkin: CEOs Who Went to Sit with The Pope Were Seeking His Approval for ESG, DEI and Climate Policies
‘And I saw with my own eyes it was real, I don’t think it was marketing’
EXCERPT:
SORKIN: “You know, if you go back and look at sort of 2017, '18, '19, '20, before the pandemic, as corporations were trying to move more around ESG and climate issues -- ESG being environmental, social and governance issues -- many CEOs, and I don't think this is widely known, were making pilgrimages to the Vatican to actually meet with the pope. In fact, I interviewed the pope back in 2019 about what was happening during one of those meetings where a whole number of CEOs went to sit with the pope. And in effect, we're seeking his approval for many of the acts that they were pursuing around ESG, around DEI and around climate.”
