EXCERPT:

BUCK: "Yeah, the White House is obviously leaning into it because I think they think that this works for them, and there’s not a lot of evidence to suggest that it doesn’t. I mean, we had a CNBC poll come out in the last couple days that shows the president still has a positive approval rating on his deportation policy. Now, look, we shouldn’t base all of this on polls, but I think it just kind of shows you that the Trump White House has the upper hand on this as a political matter. Democrats fight here, I think, is righteous, but no one has ever won an election or won popular opinion on process, on due process, on things like that. We just do those things because they’re the right thing in this country. And you usually have people elected to office who understand that they’re the right thing. the White House loves the contrast that they have here, where Van Hollen is actually making it about this person, and they’re able to say, you care more about this person than you do about having a rule of law with with immigrants in the country. It’s the great contrast for them, and that’s why they’re not backing down from it. It may be a distraction, but this is an issue where Donald Trump wants the conversation to be. He loves talking about immigration and as a, you know, talking about just sort of base politics. I think people probably don’t care too much about due process in the way that they should. They care about immigration. They care about secure borders. And if he talks about that, particularly the people who follow him, all they’re hearing is that this is a bad guy. And Donald Trump got rid of him."
