Dem Sen. Sherrod Brown: Tariffs Aimed in the Right Way, at the Right Time Can Protect American Workers, Protect American Jobs

BROWN: “Those countries that cheat, you go after them on tariffs. It’s not the kind of tariffs where they put them on, take them off, aim them at Canada, aim them at Western Europe, who has strong labor laws and has pretty good environmental laws. It’s aimed at those countries that cheat. And China was cheating every day. You may remember, in the mid/late 90s, something called most-favored nation status for China. They changed the term because it sounded so bad to permanent normal trade relations with China, but our corporate executives sold us out, and our compliant politicians sold us out. But tariffs aimed in the right way, at the right time, can protect American workers, protect American jobs and make us a stronger country. It's this sort of non-strategic political attack with tariffs that don't work so well."
