W.H.: ‘The United States Benefits from’ the U.K. Remaining in the E.U.

‘You recall the E.U. foreign minister was playing a critical important role in completing the international agreement to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon’

BENNETT: "Thanks, Josh. Just a question on Brexit. Does the United States have a position on what's going on with the vote currently? And secondly, if the U.K. does leave Europe, is there concern about the impact on American businesses?"
EARNEST: "Well, Jessica, we are obviously aware that the prime minister of Cameron has indicated that  June 23 will be the day that the British people have an opportunity to weigh in on their continued membership in the E.U. As you heard me say before and as the president has said, the United States benefits from having a strong U.K. in the European Union. And the European Union continue to be a strong, critical partner of the United States, on a variety of issues, both economic, but also some national security issues too. You recall that the E.U. foreign minister was playing a critical important role in completing the international agreement to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. That kind of cooperation is valuable and it's even more valuable to us when we had an outward looking E.U. that has the U.K. as a member. So we have been pretty clear about what the United States equities are, but obviously the British people will have an opportunity to weigh in here."
