Richard Haass: ‘I Don’t See Things Coming Together’ in Israel Anytime Soon
‘It’s not exactly clear where things are’
EXCERPT:
HAASS: “My guess is, Joe, that whatever happens, the war at one level is going to continue for -- for -- for some time, I still don't see any of the fundamental questions answered about who would provide -- if you don't like Hamas, who is going to provide services, who's going to provide security and governance. And meanwhile, things are heating up in the north, between Israel and Hezbollah, also, like Hamas backed by Iran. So I don't -- you know, the Middle East is not poised, shall we say, on -- on the brink of -- of something possible, on positive. Whatever the motives of Bibi Netanyahu or anything -- anyone else, I simply don't see things really fundamentally coming -- coming together.”
