Podesta: ‘We’ve Got to Move Forward with Cleaner Forms of Transportation and the Fastest Way to Do that Is with Electrification’

‘Transportation is now the number one emitter in the United States’

EXCERPT:

PODESTA: “Well, look, I think we're focused on the circular economy. At one -- at one level, one of the ways to meet the challenge of critical minerals is to -- is to do more effective recycling of -- of existing resources. And that is available, I think, in this space. The batteries can be recycled, etc. We've spent a significant amount of money both demonstrating new technologies through the Department of Energy grant programs, and also through the loan program office and providing companies in the United States the ability to stand up recycling operations. So I think it's -- it's an important question. But in the end of the day, we got to -- the transportation is now the number one emitter in the United States. We've got to move forward with cleaner forms of transportation. And the fastest way to do that is through electrification. The -- the American public has the choice of deciding what kind of vehicles they want to purchase, but we're seeing rapid adoption of electric vehicles, and that's a good thing for the planet.”
