‘At least 10 U.S. service members, Marines and soldiers have been killed in the attack this morning’

EXCERPT:

GRIFFIN: "Sadly, John, Sandra, we have even more devastating news to report. We've just learned that the death toll for U.S. service members has risen, we can report at this time that at least ten U.S. service members, Marines and soldiers have been killed in that bombing outside Abbey Gate, the suicide bombing attack that occurred this morning outside of the Abbey Gate at the airport in Kabul. So, what we know at this moment in time is that there were two explosions. There was a suicide bombing that struck outside the gate at the airport where the U.S. Marines were guarding the Abbey Gate, there was a second explosion, likely a vehicle-borne IED, a car bomb at the Baron Hotel, which is about 200 yards from that gate. We can tell you at this moment that the Americans who were killed, the Americans service members who were killed were killed at the Abbey Gate. We also know there was a firefight that broke out after those two explosions. We do not have any reports at this moment of further explosions, but we do know that there is still an active threat against the gates around the airport. You have 5,200 American troops inside the airport right now, they have been busy taking care of these injuries. Also, there are thousands of Afghan evacuees on the tarmac, those evacuation flights have to continue. There's a trauma center that has been set up at the airport where medical personnel were dealing with the wounded and those were killed this morning. We also know, outside the airport, that there were at least 52 Afghans who were injured or killed in this suicide bombing and car bombing this morning. They have been taken to the Kabul surgical center, we have seen the images coming out of there. But at this moment in time, I can confirm that at least ten U.S. service members were killed in that suicide bombing outside Abbey Gate this morning. Back to you."
