VP Harris Addresses the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce: ‘Help Is Here’

‘This past year, it’s been difficult’

EXCERPT:

HARRIS: “This past year, it’s been difficult both for your bottom line and for your peace of mind. One in four small businesses have closed, thousands owned by Latinos. These numbers reinforce what we already know. The situation is urgent. When the President and I were preparing to take office, he promised that help is on its way. Well, now help is here. The American Rescue Plan provides over $60 billion for our nation's small businesses. We’re investing $28 billion in grants for restaurants and bars, which make up about one in seven Latino-owned businesses. We're putting $15 billion toward a flexible grant program for small businesses that were hardest hit by the pandemic. And we’re giving Paycheck Protection Program, more than $7 billion, so that mom-and-pop shops can get help navigating the system. The American Rescue Plan lays the groundwork for the work ahead, including the work to strengthen community development financial institutions and minority depository institutions.”
