Sam Stein: Trump’s ‘Blaming Basically Anyone He Can Think of’ for Coronavirus Response

‘Another sort of weird weekend for the president’

EXCERPT:

STEIN: “But it’s exceptionally rare, Nicolle, as you know this, working inside the White House, exceptionally rare for the White House to attack its own administration agencies like this publicly, and to so clearly and transparently trying to cast blame here. Especially for Navarro, because this Dr. Bright whistleblower allegation, if you read the text, Peter Navarro was one of those first people who was actually attuned to the calamity that was coming ahead. He had worked with Dr. Bright, potentially to amp up the PPE supplies that we have, to start focusing on a vaccine early. So he was there. He understood what was going on. And it’s just really interesting to see him be the point of the spear here to try to deflect blame from Trump. But that seems to be where we are. Whether it’s blaming the unhealthy backgrounds of many Americans or the CDC or Trump just flailing about and blaming basically anyone who he can think of. we’re at the stage in this crisis where it’s time to get out of the way, more or less."
