Montage: ‘After Charlie Hebdo Massacre, Many Blame the Victim’
Everyone agrees that killing 12 people for the offense of drawing cartoons is an inexcusable atrocity, right?
Well, not so fast.
While most commentators expressed only sorrow after the Charlie Hebdo tragedy, some sought to rationalize the terrorists’ motivations.
The New York Times' Nicholas Kristof said Charlie Hebdo's editorial staff "should have been more sensitive."
Ron Paul said France's foreign policy "invites retaliation."
The Catholic League's Bill Donohue argued that if the Hebdo editor-in-chief hadn't "been so narcissistic, he may still be alive."
Several others faulted France for not going for enough integrating Muslims into the country's cultural fabric, or for letting right-wing, anti-immigrant political parties create a backlash.
Take a look.
