Gordon Chang: W.H. Sanctions Against North Korea ‘Were Designed To Be Ineffective’

‘The White House is concerned about escalation’

MELVIN: "North Korea lashing out over the weekend, saying that none of this is going to weaken that country’s resolve, its military first policy -- one million strong, as we’ve been told, their military. How is this all playing out in North Korea? Or do we know?"

CHANG: "We know a little bit. We know for instance that a three-star general has been appointed to prevent DVDs of the film 'The Interview', which is the subject of the hacking attack -- he’s been appointed to make sure that these DVDs don’t get into the country, that people don’t see them. We know South Korean activists want to put them in balloons that will lofted over the demilitarized zone. We know the smugglers will bring then in for profit motif and the North Koreans want to stop that."
