Mary Katharine Ham: The House Is Probably Going Blue
EXCERPT:
TAPPER: "President Trump there last night in Mississippi, putting the midterm elections in rather personal terms. Let’s talk about it. Is that going to work, President Trump saying, pretend I’m on ballot, getting his voters out?"
HAM: "Look, I think it does matter to the base. And if it's a base-pumping election, as many midterms are, then that may matter. It may also matter after the fact if perhaps, you know, there isn’t a red wave and he has to answer for the fact that he was, indeed, on the ballot, by his own reasoning. Look, I hate to be queen of conventional wisdom but I think the House is probably going blue. The Senate could be a very different story. The map was so advantageous to Republicans that basically this is just a blown opportunity to pick up a bunch of seats. They may keep it. Yeah, saying this is personally about him makes his supporters excited."
