Stephen Harper on Trump: I Don’t Get His ‘Obsession with Trade Relations with Canada’

‘The United States runs a surplus with Canada’

RUSH EXCERPT:

BARTIROMO: "What’s your take on conversations around trade. It looked like a icy relationship between Justin, the new prime minister. What should a NAFTA deal look like?"
HARPER: "Look, I tell people that, we try to understand the American prospective. I could understand why President Trump, why the American people feel they need better trade relationships. You know, if they wanted to take on the relationship with China and some aspects of the relationship around Mexico and autos. I believe Canada shares those concerns. I don’t understand the obsession with trade relations with Canada. Not only is the trade deficit small, the United States runs a surplus with Canada. That’s the biggest single purchaser of U.S. Goods. This seems to be the wrong target. Trump supports don’t think the trade relationship is a problem."
