Flashback — Tim Walz When Asked About Pandemic Learning Loss: ‘Do They Talk About the 14,600 People Who Died During Covid?’

‘These kids learned resiliency, these kids learned compassion for one another, these kids learned problem solving’

EXCERPT:

WALZ: “Yeah. Do they talk about the 14,600 people who died during Covid? Do they talk about — you know, the decisions had to be made early in March 2020. Look, we had work to do before Covid happened. It is across the country. We invested in making sure that that we were there for some of the catch-up work and all that. But the fact of the matter is go ahead and look at this, you know the national statistics. Look at the deaths per 100,000 for every state in the upper Midwest and we are clearly the lowest. So I made a decision that made sure we had to protect lives on the best information we had. In terms of rolling back some of the Covid restrictions, we probably fell right in the middle of the 50 states, pretty quick to have those things come off, getting folks to recover.”
