W.H. Asked About Obama Bundler’s Qualifications To Be French Ambassador

‘She is the best the country has got when it comes to representation in Paris?’

CNN's Acosta Grills Earnest About Campaign Bundler Ambassador To France: Is She The Best We've Got? (RealClearPolitics)

In September, 2011, Jane Hartley and her husband, Ralph Schlosstein, hosted a $71,600-per-couple fundraising dinner in their New York City home.

JIM ACOSTA, CNN: I know you don't want to to back over the march, and rehash that.

But as a member of the WH press corps we have certain obligations. That is to not let it lie after two of my colleagues have tried: Should Ambassador Hartley have notified the WH about the potential optics on Sunday? Should she have warned the White House that all these world leaders are going to be here, where are you guys? Did she make that call?

JOSH EARNEST, WH: I'm not going to get into any conversations that ma have taken place between Ambassador Hartley and any other members of the administration. I will say she did what she was supposed to do: participate in the rally. And as the highest representative from the U.S. to the nation of France that she was there and she participated, and we saw comments from senior French officials that they appreciated the American representation at that march and have appreciated the kind of support that they have received from this administration since the first minute.

JIM ACOSTA, CNN: When it comes to Ambassador Hartley's performance--

JOSH EARNEST, WH: Like I said, she attended the rally and that is what she was supposed to do.

JIM ACOSTA, CNN: It has been reported by some that she was a campaign bundler, a fundraiser for the president. She is the best the country has got when it comes to representation in Paris?

JOSH EARNEST, WH: I think she is doing an excellent job representing the United States of America.
