Will: After 13 Years in Afghanistan, Obama Wants More Nation-Building in Libya

‘We’ve learned nothing’

WILL: “We’ve learned nothing, because what the president said to Tom Friedman was, 'my great regret it's not that we should have not done this optional regime change.' It was really a seven-month assassination attempt against Qaddafi using fighter-bombers. We finally succeeded and decapitated the country and then we left. The president doesn’t say, as he should say, ‘This was the most frivolous use of American powers since the Bay of Pigs, and I apologize.’ Instead he says, ‘If only we've got engaged in nation-building.’ This - after 10 ten years in Iraq, 13 years in Afghanistan! He wants more of the satisfactions and excitements of nation-building in Libya. That’s his regret.”
