PLO Tells MSNBC Palestinians Want Cease-Fire, Israel Wants Continued Violence

‘82 percent of the casualties are civillians, so Israeli actions and excessive use of force is not contributing positively to the efforts to reach a cease-fire’

BRZEZINSKI: "I believe it was a week ago that you said, it was a matter of time before there would be a ceasefire. Has that time passed?”

AREIKAT: "Well, I think no. That time has not passed. I think there are intensive efforts being undertaken right now by different parties, including president Abbas, in coordination with the Secretary of State, Egypt, and other regional players. Israel has intensified its attacks against the Gaza strip over the last week. So far, 735 Palestinians have been killed, 4500 wounded, including 160 children, 90 women, elderly. 82% of the casualties are civilians. So, Israeli actions and excessive use of force is not contributing positively to the efforts to reach ceasefire."
