Chris Murphy: Our Allies See No ‘Consistency in Our Foreign Policy; It’s Foreign Policy by Improvisation’

‘It’s foreign policy by improvisation, these scandals that continue to unfold don’t help’

EXCERPT:

MURPHY: "What you’re seeing around the world is many of our allies and free agents slowly walking away from the United States. That’s happening for a number of reasons. First, they just don’t see any consistency in our foreign policy. It’s foreign policy by improvisation. These scandals that continue to unfold don’t help. Then they see an intentionality to the lack of personnel in our State Department, no assistant secretaries covering the world at all. Normally when something like this happens, you would have a high-level State Department official going out and talking to world leaders trying to defend the United States. Because we don’t have anyone in the State Department below the secretary level we don't have the ability to do that."
