CNN’s Weir: Trump Admin’s Never Going to Win the Debate, the Science on Climate Change Is Incredibly Solid

BERMAN New this morning ░░░░░░░░ than 85 veteran climate ░░░░░░░░ are pushing back against ░░░░░░░░ Trump Administration over a ░░░░░░░░ that downplays the severity ░░░░░░░░ climate change In a ░░░░░░░░ page rebuttal to the ░░░░░░░░ department researchers say the ░░░░░░░░ Makes a mockery of ░░░░░░░░ and is the administration ░░░░░░░░ attempt to erase credible ░░░░░░░░ science from the record ░░░░░░░░ us now CNN chief ░░░░░░░░ correspondent Bill Weir So ░░░░░░░░ exactly besides it sounds ░░░░░░░░ everything are these climate ░░░░░░░░ pushing back against WEIR ░░░░░░░░ it s a serious ░░░░░░░░ It goes back to ░░░░░░░░ Wright who is in ░░░░░░░░ Department of Energy and ░░░░░░░░ heads the Department of ░░░░░░░░ but was a fracking ░░░░░░░░ in a previous life ░░░░░░░░ has long said that ░░░░░░░░ change is happening man ░░░░░░░░ climate change but it ░░░░░░░░ no big deal it ░░░░░░░░ just an externality And ░░░░░░░░ he found five contrarians ░░░░░░░░ sort of anti science ░░░░░░░░ in this field and ░░░░░░░░ put together a hastily ░░░░░░░░ it sort of reads ░░░░░░░░ a blog post undermining ░░░░░░░░ of expertise across different ░░░░░░░░ And then the Department ░░░░░░░░ Environmental Protection says We ░░░░░░░░ going to use this ░░░░░░░░ finding and we re ░░░░░░░░ to get rid of ░░░░░░░░ endangerment finding which regulates ░░░░░░░░ pollution overall And so ░░░░░░░░ Andrew Freeman my colleague ░░░░░░░░ CNN com talked to ░░░░░░░░ number of these scientists ░░░░░░░░ are putting together an ░░░░░░░░ rebuttal point by point ░░░░░░░░ of the things they ░░░░░░░░ after are their dismissal ░░░░░░░░ sea level rise projections ░░░░░░░░ are actually conservative based ░░░░░░░░ what s happening the ░░░░░░░░ of carbon dioxide as ░░░░░░░░ food over trillion tons ░░░░░░░░ industrial pollution excess carbon ░░░░░░░░ is just greening the ░░░░░░░░ no big deal the ░░░░░░░░ of climate modeling But ░░░░░░░░ say that a lot ░░░░░░░░ their work was cherry ░░░░░░░░ and misconstrued misused deliberately ░░░░░░░░ sort of stack the ░░░░░░░░ for big polluters like ░░░░░░░░ and gas companies And ░░░░░░░░ quote that really hits ░░░░░░░░ Andrew Dessler out of ░░░░░░░░ A M a really ░░░░░░░░ climate scientist says This ░░░░░░░░ a rerun of the ░░░░░░░░ battles The goal here ░░░░░░░░ not to win the ░░░░░░░░ They re never going ░░░░░░░░ win the debate The ░░░░░░░░ of climate change is ░░░░░░░░ solid All they re ░░░░░░░░ to do is muddy ░░░░░░░░ waters create the idea ░░░░░░░░ there is a debate ░░░░░░░░ the government will use ░░░░░░░░ to roll back regulation ░░░░░░░░ was Trump s promise ░░░░░░░░ big oil companies If ░░░░░░░░ help me get elected ░░░░░░░░ ll get rid of ░░░░░░░░ regulation And if you ░░░░░░░░ at that tobacco analogy ░░░░░░░░ s interesting because the ░░░░░░░░ rates in this country ░░░░░░░░ cancer rates look like ░░░░░░░░ horseshoe From the time ░░░░░░░░ said it was bad ░░░░░░░░ the time the attorney ░░░░░░░░ won in court was ░░░░░░░░ of science denial and ░░░░░░░░ that cost lives They ░░░░░░░░ saying the same thing ░░░░░░░░ playing out now as ░░░░░░░░ climate change graph does ░░░░░░░░ curve is not bending ░░░░░░░░ And the shifting government ░░░░░░░░ are already being used ░░░░░░░░ implement policy here So ░░░░░░░░ happens next WEIR Well ░░░░░░░░ re trying to get ░░░░░░░░ out there because they ░░░░░░░░ now on a federal ░░░░░░░░ comment period you know ░░░░░░░░ a month or two ░░░░░░░░ people to weigh in ░░░░░░░░ they hope enough people ░░░░░░░░ weigh in on the ░░░░░░░░ of Energy and say ░░░░░░░░ is not how you ░░░░░░░░ a country or not ░░░░░░░░ you address something that ░░░░░░░░ rest of the world ░░░░░░░░ is very real and ░░░░░░░░ right now causing health ░░░░░░░░ wealth and happiness of ░░░░░░░░ So who knows But ░░░░░░░░ we ve seen so ░░░░░░░░ there s no regard ░░░░░░░░ expertise with this administration ░░░░░░░░ re just chopping it ░░░░░░░░ down BERMAN We ll ░░░░░░░░ what happens during this ░░░░░░░░ comment period Bill Weir ░░░░░░░░ to have you Thank ░░░░░░░░ very much.”
