Capehart: Obama Has Been Scarce Because Everyone’s Looking for Him to Save The Day

LEMIRE There needs to ░░░░░░░░ more focus paid to ░░░░░░░░ root causes not this ░░░░░░░░ now These are societal ░░░░░░░░ But then there s ░░░░░░░░ this if we re ░░░░░░░░ in the realm of ░░░░░░░░ Following President Trump s ░░░░░░░░ last year some Democrats ░░░░░░░░ beginning to openly criticize ░░░░░░░░ President Barack Obama strategists ░░░░░░░░ consultants who of course ░░░░░░░░ played a huge role ░░░░░░░░ the direction of the ░░░░░░░░ in recent years The ░░░░░░░░ called Obama coalition made ░░░░░░░░ of less politically engaged ░░░░░░░░ younger voters and voters ░░░░░░░░ color largely shifted toward ░░░░░░░░ in 2024 As NBC ░░░░░░░░ notes Obama himself remains ░░░░░░░░ force in the party ░░░░░░░░ stadiums and commanding the ░░░░░░░░ of major donors But ░░░░░░░░ the former president s ░░░░░░░░ was showing signs of ░░░░░░░░ last fall When the ░░░░░░░░ presidential election arrives it ░░░░░░░░ be 20 years since ░░░░░░░░ s first victory At ░░░░░░░░ point more voters will ░░░░░░░░ come of age in ░░░░░░░░ era of Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ in the era of ░░░░░░░░ And Jonathan it s ░░░░░░░░ great point Like first ░░░░░░░░ all there is this ░░░░░░░░ I know there s ░░░░░░░░ some resentment in the ░░░░░░░░ Party that Obama himself ░░░░░░░░ of only shows up ░░░░░░░░ the end he s ░░░░░░░░ closer in these elections ░░░░░░░░ I think his team ░░░░░░░░ push back and say ░░░░░░░░ that s what you ░░░░░░░░ because he s sort ░░░░░░░░ scarce that s what ░░░░░░░░ his appearances so meaningful ░░░░░░░░ let s set that ░░░░░░░░ But it s more ░░░░░░░░ I think some of ░░░░░░░░ people who work for ░░░░░░░░ have come under a ░░░░░░░░ of fire lately but ░░░░░░░░ s also in this ░░░░░░░░ it s more about ░░░░░░░░ coalition of voters he ░░░░░░░░ to put together which ░░░░░░░░ the time some Democrats ░░░░░░░░ well this could be ░░░░░░░░ new permanent Democratic Party ░░░░░░░░ has clearly not been ░░░░░░░░ case It feels like ░░░░░░░░ voters very quickly got ░░░░░░░░ for granted CAPEHART Well ░░░░░░░░ know I look back ░░░░░░░░ the Obama years and ░░░░░░░░ won in 2008 but ░░░░░░░░ they lost the majorities ░░░░░░░░ the House and then ░░░░░░░░ the Senate It seems ░░░░░░░░ when the midterms came ░░░░░░░░ Obama luster wasn t ░░░░░░░░ to push that coalition ░░░░░░░░ to bring people to ░░░░░░░░ polls to give him ░░░░░░░░ majorities he needed particularly ░░░░░░░░ the second term to ░░░░░░░░ able to govern And ░░░░░░░░ when he when he ░░░░░░░░ the White House he ░░░░░░░░ the then First Lady ░░░░░░░░ Obama were very clear ░░░░░░░░ the American people and ░░░░░░░░ their supporters We have ░░░░░░░░ here eight years We ░░░░░░░░ done everything we can ░░░░░░░░ is now on you ░░░░░░░░ number one job is ░░░░░░░░ And I think that ░░░░░░░░ why one of the ░░░░░░░░ reasons why I think ░░░░░░░░ Obama has been scarce ░░░░░░░░ that he everyone s ░░░░░░░░ for him to save ░░░░░░░░ day And what they ░░░░░░░░ saying is No no ░░░░░░░░ no it s not ░░░░░░░░ us It s about ░░░░░░░░ And it seems like ░░░░░░░░ party can t seem ░░░░░░░░ come to grips with ░░░░░░░░ and deal with that ░░░░░░░░ then when you come ░░░░░░░░ the staff one of ░░░░░░░░ things folks have to ░░░░░░░░ is that the Obama ░░░░░░░░ were the first Democrats ░░░░░░░░ be in power who ░░░░░░░░ t Clintons And so ░░░░░░░░ folks used to complain ░░░░░░░░ the Clinton years oh ░░░░░░░░ God the Clinton folks ░░░░░░░░ running all these things ░░░░░░░░ can t we get ░░░░░░░░ blood The Obama people ░░░░░░░░ in they re the ░░░░░░░░ blood and now people ░░░░░░░░ starting to complain oh ░░░░░░░░ God the Obama people ░░░░░░░░ re running everything Some ░░░░░░░░ the criticism I think ░░░░░░░░ valid There is sometimes ░░░░░░░░ get a sense that ░░░░░░░░ think they know everything ░░░░░░░░ run the world and ░░░░░░░░ some cases you can ░░░░░░░░ it because well they ░░░░░░░░ win two presidential elections ░░░░░░░░ at a certain point ░░░░░░░░ class of folks has ░░░░░░░░ start listening to the ░░░░░░░░ generation coming up because ░░░░░░░░ have ideas they have ░░░░░░░░ of reaching out to ░░░░░░░░ voters to men to ░░░░░░░░ Obama coalition that they ░░░░░░░░ don t have they ░░░░░░░░ t have the feel ░░░░░░░░ it because they re ░░░░░░░░ from that generation.”
