RUSH TRANSCRIPT A coalition ░░░░░░░░ scientific group says will ░░░░░░░░ in to publish a ░░░░░░░░ report in a climate ░░░░░░░░ impact on the u ░░░░░░░░ after the Trump Administration ░░░░░░░░ a halt to work ░░░░░░░░ the document The federal ░░░░░░░░ is legally mandated to ░░░░░░░░ a national climate assessment ░░░░░░░░ four or five years ░░░░░░░░ assesses the impact the ░░░░░░░░ warming is likely to ░░░░░░░░ the country but this ░░░░░░░░ the Trump Administration told ░░░░░░░░ at their services or ░░░░░░░░ longer needed The American ░░░░░░░░ society in the American ░░░░░░░░ union save adults team ░░░░░░░░ to complete that report ░░░░░░░░ at I d move ░░░░░░░░ as the Trump run ░░░░░░░░ Department sues several democratic ░░░░░░░░ states in an attempt ░░░░░░░░ stop them from taking ░░░░░░░░ fuel Will companies to ░░░░░░░░ for the impact of ░░░░░░░░ change is for Trump ░░░░░░░░ frequently described Man made ░░░░░░░░ change as a hoax ░░░░░░░░ of course and overwhelming ░░░░░░░░ consensus on that topic ░░░░░░░░ week s moves are ░░░░░░░░ many changes that his ░░░░░░░░ made to U s ░░░░░░░░ policy in his first ░░░░░░░░ hundred days in office ░░░░░░░░ join me here in ░░░░░░░░ is doctor Essentially a ░░░░░░░░ scientist and climate risk ░░░░░░░░ always great to have ░░░░░░░░ here in studio with ░░░░░░░░ BBC so much going ░░░░░░░░ obviously with the Trump ░░░░░░░░ a big shift really ░░░░░░░░ President Biden to what ░░░░░░░░ White House is doing ░░░░░░░░ D C just wrapped ░░░░░░░░ it s first climate ░░░░░░░░ You part of that ░░░░░░░░ curious What was the ░░░░░░░░ of discussions among many ░░░░░░░░ leaders activists obviously that ░░░░░░░░ were gathering here in ░░░░░░░░ I think what you ░░░░░░░░ just talking about earlier ░░░░░░░░ changes we re seeing ░░░░░░░░ coming from the White ░░░░░░░░ and the Trump Administration ░░░░░░░░ really changing the narrative ░░░░░░░░ changing the tone about ░░░░░░░░ change Now it s ░░░░░░░░ put we re seeing ░░░░░░░░ treat a governmental retreat ░░░░░░░░ climate in a huge ░░░░░░░░ I think Trump has ░░░░░░░░ taken one hundred and ░░░░░░░░ act since weakening climate ░░░░░░░░ environmental matters and what ░░░░░░░░ re seeing now and ░░░░░░░░ we saw doing D ░░░░░░░░ climate week is that ░░░░░░░░ sectors are stepping in ░░░░░░░░ doing D C climate ░░░░░░░░ It was really extraordinary ░░░░░░░░ was a lot of ░░░░░░░░ on tech on finance ░░░░░░░░ really on what needs ░░░░░░░░ be done a lot ░░░░░░░░ what focus on innovation ░░░░░░░░ even though all of ░░░░░░░░ retreats if you like ░░░░░░░░ retreats are happening There ░░░░░░░░ other entities aware that ░░░░░░░░ change is not going ░░░░░░░░ just because we re ░░░░░░░░ putting it in documents ░░░░░░░░ had the hottest years ░░░░░░░░ record we re seeing ░░░░░░░░ intense hurricanes wildfires in ░░░░░░░░ and these are people ░░░░░░░░ lives that are being ░░░░░░░░ so the need for ░░░░░░░░ is getting stronger than ░░░░░░░░ but the burden now ░░░░░░░░ going to shift to ░░░░░░░░ sector to investments to ░░░░░░░░ sectors away from government ░░░░░░░░ it comes with the ░░░░░░░░ Administration You know you ░░░░░░░░ some of those know ░░░░░░░░ in the first hundred ░░░░░░░░ we saw the Trump ░░░░░░░░ day one the president ░░░░░░░░ the country from the ░░░░░░░░ climate accord in recent ░░░░░░░░ making moves to boost ░░░░░░░░ and other fossil fuels ░░░░░░░░ terms of the bigger ░░░░░░░░ I guess and and ░░░░░░░░ fight against greenhouse gas ░░░░░░░░ climate change how big ░░░░░░░░ a setback do think ░░░░░░░░ is it is a ░░░░░░░░ There s no doubt ░░░░░░░░ it because for many ░░░░░░░░ the us has been ░░░░░░░░ leader in climate policy ░░░░░░░░ leader in innovation a ░░░░░░░░ in driving the rest ░░░░░░░░ the world to take ░░░░░░░░ And this signal is ░░░░░░░░ the us is no ░░░░░░░░ wanting to take that ░░░░░░░░ from the government perspective ░░░░░░░░ it is a setback ░░░░░░░░ s a setback that ░░░░░░░░ think other nations may ░░░░░░░░ to look at and ░░░░░░░░ well Why do we ░░░░░░░░ to set step up ░░░░░░░░ that that s a ░░░░░░░░ issue is a problem ░░░░░░░░ the positive side because ░░░░░░░░ think there s there ░░░░░░░░ a shock that went ░░░░░░░░ the world not just ░░░░░░░░ he pulled out of ░░░░░░░░ because everybody expected that ░░░░░░░░ I think the speed ░░░░░░░░ the extent to which ░░░░░░░░ rolling back on climate ░░░░░░░░ has shocked pretty much ░░░░░░░░ and that s creating ░░░░░░░░ space for other nations ░░░░░░░░ to step up Which ░░░░░░░░ nations you think most ░░░░░░░░ us interestingly enough I ░░░░░░░░ it might be China ░░░░░░░░ re already seeing China ░░░░░░░░ of their interest in ░░░░░░░░ energy in particular beginning ░░░░░░░░ step into some of ░░░░░░░░ vacuum cup 30 is ░░░░░░░░ up as you know ░░░░░░░░ s a big climate ░░░░░░░░ conference I think that ░░░░░░░░ going to be a ░░░░░░░░ interesting conference This year ░░░░░░░░ of the us withdrew ░░░░░░░░ that that those meetings ░░░░░░░░ it does still have ░░░░░░░░ actually be there are ░░░░░░░░ because it takes one ░░░░░░░░ to fully withdraw So ░░░░░░░░ mean that could be ░░░░░░░░ to It will be ░░░░░░░░ because Brazil is the ░░░░░░░░ country this year and ░░░░░░░░ has already said that ░░░░░░░░ agenda that one that ░░░░░░░░ is climate justice environment ░░░░░░░░ speeding up adaptation So ░░░░░░░░ s broadening the tent ░░░░░░░░ you like from just ░░░░░░░░ two financing Brazil is ░░░░░░░░ to call for about ░░░░░░░░ one point three trillion ░░░░░░░░ a year by 20 ░░░░░░░░ five going to poorer ░░░░░░░░ that s their back ░░░░░░░░ Belgium roadmap And so ░░░░░░░░ we ll see a ░░░░░░░░ 30 is a lot ░░░░░░░░ I think a much ░░░░░░░░ discussion on climate nature ░░░░░░░░ lucian different way of ░░░░░░░░ things and of course ░░░░░░░░ Brazil has got the ░░░░░░░░ so nature is front ░░░░░░░░ center There yeah I ░░░░░░░░ we ll see I ░░░░░░░░ it s going to ░░░░░░░░ very different even if ░░░░░░░░ us government is not ░░░░░░░░ leader Believe me every ░░░░░░░░ you as company will ░░░░░░░░ there all of the ░░░░░░░░ are already gearing up ░░░░░░░░ American presence will be ░░░░░░░░ very strongly just not ░░░░░░░░ the same rooms Briefly ░░░░░░░░ you don t mind ░░░░░░░░ you know you mentioned ░░░░░░░░ of these solutions or ░░░░░░░░ being discussed during climate ░░░░░░░░ in Washington What have ░░░░░░░░ seen in in terms ░░░░░░░░ efforts to take on ░░░░░░░░ mantle produce greenhouse gas ░░░░░░░░ that that they give ░░░░░░░░ hope that we can ░░░░░░░░ these goals I put ░░░░░░░░ me hope is a ░░░░░░░░ ve got so much ░░░░░░░░ about them In essence ░░░░░░░░ train has left the ░░░░░░░░ on this already we ░░░░░░░░ seeing renewable energies become ░░░░░░░░ mainstream Now they re ░░░░░░░░ going there s going ░░░░░░░░ be a transition to ░░░░░░░░ It s not that ░░░░░░░░ re going to have ░░░░░░░░ energies tomorrow but solar ░░░░░░░░ wind energy we re ░░░░░░░░ those become more and ░░░░░░░░ important we re seeing ░░░░░░░░ different view of nature ░░░░░░░░ the sense of nature ░░░░░░░░ not a nice to ░░░░░░░░ but rather part of ░░░░░░░░ solutions and I m ░░░░░░░░ these happened both at ░░░░░░░░ levels but I m ░░░░░░░░ investments in into these ░░░░░░░░ well and the other ░░░░░░░░ in this is the ░░░░░░░░ industry Insurance industry is ░░░░░░░░ aware of climate changes ░░░░░░░░ they are they re ░░░░░░░░ becoming like a regulatory ░░░░░░░░ in terms of how ░░░░░░░░ are looking at risk ░░░░░░░░ how they re approaching ░░░░░░░░ fact that they can ░░░░░░░░ you breaks and insurance ░░░░░░░░ our for reducing the ░░░░░░░░ Somebody We ve seen ░░░░░░░░ in the u s ░░░░░░░░ wildfires insurance rates deftly ░░░░░░░░ up in Los Angeles ░░░░░░░░ ll just have to ░░░░░░░░ example doctor Deborah brosnan ░░░░░░░░ and climate scientists Have ░░░░░░░░ and thank you thank ░░░░░░░░ for having me pleasure ░░░░░░░░ were there’s plenty
