SCARBOROUGH You know senator ░░░░░░░░ couple of things First ░░░░░░░░ all just following up ░░░░░░░░ the inequity that is ░░░░░░░░ there You know we ░░░░░░░░ about the GDP and ░░░░░░░░ strong it is So ░░░░░░░░ of that is driven ░░░░░░░░ what the wealthiest are ░░░░░░░░ You know the top ░░░░░░░░ in 2022 they were ░░░░░░░░ for 80 of this ░░░░░░░░ s GDP That means ░░░░░░░░ falling further and further ░░░░░░░░ in their wages So ░░░░░░░░ s that s one ░░░░░░░░ huge problem But I ░░░░░░░░ to ask you also ░░░░░░░░ about tariffs I know ░░░░░░░░ first time I ran ░░░░░░░░ in northwest Florida people ░░░░░░░░ very concerned about NAFTA ░░░░░░░░ were worried about GATT ░░░░░░░░ were worried about the ░░░░░░░░ Trade Organization And they ░░░░░░░░ tariffs They wanted pushback ░░░░░░░░ Canada pushback against Mexico ░░░░░░░░ that only increased over ░░░░░░░░ past 20 30 years ░░░░░░░░ what should Democrats positions ░░░░░░░░ on tariffs What tariffs ░░░░░░░░ help American workers BROWN ░░░░░░░░ you for that question ░░░░░░░░ came to Congress a ░░░░░░░░ before you Joe and ░░░░░░░░ first big effort in ░░░░░░░░ was fighting against NAFTA ░░░░░░░░ I would argue that ░░░░░░░░ lot of this started ░░░░░░░░ when frankly presidents of ░░░░░░░░ parties sold out workers ░░░░░░░░ see that and that ░░░░░░░░ gotten worse And so ░░░░░░░░ ve been to the ░░░░░░░░ Trade Commission maybe 20 ░░░░░░░░ as a House member ░░░░░░░░ a senator calling on ░░░░░░░░ to stand up on ░░░░░░░░ It might be steel ░░░░░░░░ be aluminum but that ░░░░░░░░ that was a strategy ░░░░░░░░ was a strategy Those ░░░░░░░░ that cheat you go ░░░░░░░░ them on tariffs It ░░░░░░░░ not the kind of ░░░░░░░░ where they put them ░░░░░░░░ take them off aim ░░░░░░░░ at Canada aim them ░░░░░░░░ Western Europe who has ░░░░░░░░ labor laws and has ░░░░░░░░ good environmental laws It ░░░░░░░░ aimed at those countries ░░░░░░░░ cheat And China was ░░░░░░░░ every day You may ░░░░░░░░ in the mid late ░░░░░░░░ something called most favored ░░░░░░░░ status for China They ░░░░░░░░ the term because it ░░░░░░░░ so bad to permanent ░░░░░░░░ trade relations with China ░░░░░░░░ our corporate executives sold ░░░░░░░░ out and our compliant ░░░░░░░░ sold us out But ░░░░░░░░ aimed in the right ░░░░░░░░ at the right time ░░░░░░░░ protect American workers protect ░░░░░░░░ jobs and make us ░░░░░░░░ stronger country It s ░░░░░░░░ sort of non strategic ░░░░░░░░ attack with tariffs that ░░░░░░░░ t work so well.”
