Maddow: The First Order of Business Is to Stop Them from Taking Any Uncontested Ground Right from the Outset

this was an election ░░░░░░░░ was not just a ░░░░░░░░ between two candidates but ░░░░░░░░ was a choice between ░░░░░░░░ the American system of ░░░░░░░░ or trading it in ░░░░░░░░ a strong man authoritarian ░░░░░░░░ instead then the decisive ░░░░░░░░ of this election gives ░░░░░░░░ not just an answer ░░░░░░░░ the question as to ░░░░░░░░ Americans want to do ░░░░░░░░ those lines it also ░░░░░░░░ us a really big ░░░░░░░░ do list as Americans ░░░░░░░░ you are an American ░░░░░░░░ who does not want ░░░░░░░░ ash can the American ░░░░░░░░ of government who doesn ░░░░░░░░ want a strong man ░░░░░░░░ system where the whole ░░░░░░░░ is one guy and ░░░░░░░░ else exists to serve ░░░░░░░░ if that is not ░░░░░░░░ kind of country that ░░░░░░░░ want then yesterday s ░░░░░░░░ means you have more ░░░░░░░░ do for your country ░░░░░░░░ you have ever done ░░░░░░░░ Because now is when ░░░░░░░░ rubber really hits the ░░░░░░░░ right We don t ░░░░░░░░ flip a switch and ░░░░░░░░ American system of goth ░░░░░░░░ gone Democracy is gone ░░░░░░░░ doesn t work like ░░░░░░░░ I mean not to ░░░░░░░░ boring here for a ░░░░░░░░ but just getting very ░░░░░░░░ We now are just ░░░░░░░░ one in the list ░░░░░░░░ countries that has decided ░░░░░░░░ you know hey what ░░░░░░░░ heck Let s try ░░░░░░░░ strong man thing Let ░░░░░░░░ let democracy go Let ░░░░░░░░ put in an all ░░░░░░░░ guy instead and see ░░░░░░░░ it goes There are ░░░░░░░░ more countries in the ░░░░░░░░ governed by that kind ░░░░░░░░ a system than there ░░░░░░░░ governed by ours We ░░░░░░░░ the only pluralistic democracy ░░░░░░░░ the world And shall ░░░░░░░░ keep it A lot ░░░░░░░░ our fellow Americans say ░░░░░░░░ shouldn t Thousand we ░░░░░░░░ Now we know for ░░░░░░░░ But a lot of ░░░░░░░░ tens of millions of ░░░░░░░░ say we should keep ░░░░░░░░ system Which means time ░░░░░░░░ fight for it And ░░░░░░░░ Americans did fight for ░░░░░░░░ by working on this ░░░░░░░░ by trying to get ░░░░░░░░ candidate elected who was ░░░░░░░░ the Democrat and the ░░░░░░░░ d Democrat She didn ░░░░░░░░ win The strong man ░░░░░░░░ won instead But now ░░░░░░░░ doesn t end Time ░░░░░░░░ t stop Now we ░░░░░░░░ the benefit of knowing ░░░░░░░░ know how this has ░░░░░░░░ in every other country ░░░░░░░░ has been through a ░░░░░░░░ to authoritarian transition And ░░░░░░░░ there are a lot ░░░░░░░░ them We have the ░░░░░░░░ of seeing what s ░░░░░░░░ in those other countries ░░░░░░░░ what we know is ░░░░░░░░ the more ground the ░░░░░░░░ takes the harder it ░░░░░░░░ to ever get that ░░░░░░░░ back And so the ░░░░░░░░ order of business is ░░░░░░░░ stop them from taking ░░░░░░░░ uncontested ground right from ░░░░░░░░ outset when it comes ░░░░░░░░ what our system of ░░░░░░░░ is and what our ░░░░░░░░ is We know from ░░░░░░░░ country s experiences that ░░░░░░░░ I mean now in ░░░░░░░░ next few weeks if ░░░░░░░░ the next few days ░░░░░░░░ are going to start ░░░░░░░░ to see how far ░░░░░░░░ country is going to ░░░░░░░░ them go without pushback ░░░░░░░░ protest And part of ░░░░░░░░ is because it s ░░░░░░░░ psychologically advantageous for them ░░░░░░░░ do this now right ░░░░░░░░ re counting on the ░░░░░░░░ the country that voted ░░░░░░░░ them the half the ░░░░░░░░ that doesn t want ░░░░░░░░ give up on our ░░░░░░░░ of government They re ░░░░░░░░ on all those tens ░░░░░░░░ millions of Americans to ░░░░░░░░ out be despondent which ░░░░░░░░ mean letting them do ░░░░░░░░ they want letting them ░░░░░░░░ the table What they ░░░░░░░░ don t want is ░░░░░░░░ the half the country ░░░░░░░░ voted against them the ░░░░░░░░ the country that wants ░░░░░░░░ keep our democracy what ░░░░░░░░ really don t want ░░░░░░░░ for those tens of ░░░░░░░░ of Americans to wake ░░░░░░░░ tomorrow feeling scrappy as ░░░░░░░░ Feeling regretful about the ░░░░░░░░ outcome freed up from ░░░░░░░░ to spend all our ░░░░░░░░ working on the election ░░░░░░░░ now we can work ░░░░░░░░ time on being fricken ░░░░░░░░ On being a thorn ░░░░░░░░ the side to anyone ░░░░░░░░ now intends to try ░░░░░░░░ turn this country into ░░░░░░░░ tin pot tyranny What ░░░░░░░░ want least of all ░░░░░░░░ to realize that half ░░░░░░░░ country went to bed ░░░░░░░░ tonight but then woke ░░░░░░░░ tomorrow fired up With ░░░░░░░░ new sense of purpose ░░░░░░░░ that apparently this is ░░░░░░░░ we re on this ░░░░░░░░ to do as American ░░░░░░░░ in this generation Because ░░░░░░░░ did not just end ░░░░░░░░ did not just stop ░░░░░░░░ just got marching orders ░░░░░░░░ the universe and the ░░░░░░░░ College that as of ░░░░░░░░ American citizens who do ░░░░░░░░ to hold on to ░░░░░░░░ we know exactly what ░░░░░░░░ re going to be ░░░░░░░░ the next days and ░░░░░░░░ and likely years of ░░░░░░░░ life working on And ░░░░░░░░ strategic first moves come ░░░░░░░░ focus quickly when you ░░░░░░░░ about what other countries ░░░░░░░░ shown us about how ░░░░░░░░ it is to regain ░░░░░░░░ ground once an authoritarian ░░░░░░░░ has taken that ground.
