SNOW As we inch ░░░░░░░░ to November s presidential ░░░░░░░░ both parties paying particular ░░░░░░░░ to Millennial and Gen ░░░░░░░░ voters they could be ░░░░░░░░ deciding factor in who ░░░░░░░░ the White House A ░░░░░░░░ poll asked young voters ░░░░░░░░ battleground states about the ░░░░░░░░ most important to them ░░░░░░░░ and jobs topped the ░░░░░░░░ but the survey also ░░░░░░░░ that climate and environment ░░░░░░░░ be particularly motivating as ░░░░░░░░ factor in getting young ░░░░░░░░ out to the polls ░░░░░░░░ News political national climate ░░░░░░░░ I should say that ░░░░░░░░ NBC News national climate ░░░░░░░░ Chase Cain took a ░░░░░░░░ look at all this ░░░░░░░░ us Chase what did ░░░░░░░░ find CAIN Hey Kate ░░░░░░░░ research from the Environmental ░░░░░░░░ Project did something interesting ░░░░░░░░ asked voters not just ░░░░░░░░ s your top priority ░░░░░░░░ what s the priority ░░░░░░░░ s going to actually ░░░░░░░░ you to show up ░░░░░░░░ the polls and vote ░░░░░░░░ November When they asked ░░░░░░░░ question climate change actually ░░░░░░░░ higher on the list ░░░░░░░░ 78 percent of young ░░░░░░░░ saying they re going ░░░░░░░░ go vote because of ░░░░░░░░ change Clip starts CAIN ░░░░░░░░ change has become a ░░░░░░░░ breaker issue for many ░░░░░░░░ Americans 40 percent of ░░░░░░░░ under 35 say they ░░░░░░░░ only vote for a ░░░░░░░░ who prioritizes climate action ░░░░░░░░ young voters have been ░░░░░░░░ since the last election ░░░░░░░░ I personally am very ░░░░░░░░ I don t consider ░░░░░░░░ a Democrat or a ░░░░░░░░ but I am here ░░░░░░░░ climate change is the ░░░░░░░░ important priority ZIMMER I ░░░░░░░░ a livable future I ░░░░░░░░ green jobs I currently ░░░░░░░░ to George Washington University ░░░░░░░░ I m worried about ░░░░░░░░ job future CAIN This ░░░░░░░░ poll conducted by a ░░░░░░░░ polling firm of registered ░░░░░░░░ in five swing states ░░░░░░░░ that across the political ░░░░░░░░ super majorities of young ░░░░░░░░ demand or at least ░░░░░░░░ candidates who prioritize climate ░░░░░░░░ UNKNOWN Yeah there is ░░░░░░░░ voter support not just ░░░░░░░░ Democrats but also among ░░░░░░░░ to force politicians to ░░░░░░░░ on climate and not ░░░░░░░░ of the goodness of ░░░░░░░░ hearts but because it ░░░░░░░░ become the easiest way ░░░░░░░░ them to win elections ░░░░░░░░ the burden is upon ░░░░░░░░ as voters first because ░░░░░░░░ we don t show ░░░░░░░░ there s no reason ░░░░░░░░ politicians to appeal to ░░░░░░░░ priorities CAIN That s ░░░░░░░░ goal of the nonpartisan ░░░░░░░░ Voter Project Don t ░░░░░░░░ anyone s mind Just ░░░░░░░░ to get young climate ░░░░░░░░ Americans to vote And ░░░░░░░░ impact could be huge ░░░░░░░░ University projects that Gen ░░░░░░░░ and Millennials will have ░░░░░░░░ combined 104 million eligible ░░░░░░░░ this fall MURRAY Being ░░░░░░░░ to say hey we ░░░░░░░░ going to win over ░░░░░░░░ try to appeal to ░░░░░░░░ who care about climate ░░░░░░░░ does matter It might ░░░░░░░░ be the number one ░░░░░░░░ It might not be ░░░░░░░░ 3 or number 4 ░░░░░░░░ in our close and ░░░░░░░░ elections that we end ░░░░░░░░ having every demographic ends ░░░░░░░░ mattering CAIN One influential ░░░░░░░░ action group the Sunrise ░░░░░░░░ frequently organizes protests to ░░░░░░░░ that jobs inflation and ░░░░░░░░ change aren t actually ░░░░░░░░ issues UNKNOWN Young people ░░░░░░░░ action So it s ░░░░░░░░ a party and that ░░░░░░░░ why we want to ░░░░░░░░ sure that both nominees ░░░░░░░░ and hear our demands ░░░░░░░░ AJAY I would love ░░░░░░░░ see a bill that ░░░░░░░░ puts forward how tackling ░░░░░░░░ change can decrease our ░░░░░░░░ of living and improve ░░░░░░░░ lives I think that ░░░░░░░░ housing education and jobs ░░░░░░░░ and foremost Those are ░░░░░░░░ key costs right now ░░░░░░░░ also ways that we ░░░░░░░░ improve people s lives ░░░░░░░░ ends CAIN And when ░░░░░░░░ think about how an ░░░░░░░░ like this can make ░░░░░░░░ difference I mean the ░░░░░░░░ presidential election decided by ░░░░░░░░ know roughly a couple ░░░░░░░░ thousand votes across a ░░░░░░░░ key states Well this ░░░░░░░░ there will be roughly ░░░░░░░░ million eligible new eligible ░░░░░░░░ from Gen Z So ░░░░░░░░ million versus 200 000 ░░░░░░░░ can make a big ░░░░░░░░ Kate SNOW Yeah it ░░░░░░░░ can I mean it ░░░░░░░░ who shows up right ░░░░░░░░ Cain, thank you.”
