RUSH TRANSCRIPT So much ░░░░░░░░ sitting down with us ░░░░░░░░ letting us come into ░░░░░░░░ beautiful home We are ░░░░░░░░ happy to have you ░░░░░░░░ Thank you Your life ░░░░░░░░ changed dramatically over the ░░░░░░░░ of the last few ░░░░░░░░ How are you dealing ░░░░░░░░ that How is your ░░░░░░░░ Really well It s ░░░░░░░░ such an adventure Obviously ░░░░░░░░ is like nothing we ░░░░░░░░ done before Everyone has ░░░░░░░░ been really kind since ░░░░░░░░ started this There have ░░░░░░░░ so many people volunteering ░░░░░░░░ help us Help us ░░░░░░░░ how to do everything ░░░░░░░░ can t thank people ░░░░░░░░ for that Biggest adjustment ░░░░░░░░ has changed a lot ░░░░░░░░ Secret Service is a ░░░░░░░░ change I have to ░░░░░░░░ they have been amazing ░░░░░░░░ have really taught us ░░░░░░░░ incredible amount over the ░░░░░░░░ couple of weeks how ░░░░░░░░ live with a security ░░░░░░░░ and all of that ░░░░░░░░ is certainly a change ░░░░░░░░ have code names now ░░░░░░░░ kids had a lot ░░░░░░░░ fun with that Select ░░░░░░░░ own Dating j d ░░░░░░░░ met in law school ░░░░░░░░ you ever think this ░░░░░░░░ where your path would ░░░░░░░░ the two of you ░░░░░░░░ really wasn t on ░░░░░░░░ mind at the time ░░░░░░░░ Were interested In we ░░░░░░░░ about the issues of ░░░░░░░░ day or things like ░░░░░░░░ But planning a life ░░░░░░░░ that was not on ░░░░░░░░ horizon I was planning ░░░░░░░░ become a lawyer and ░░░░░░░░ he at one point ░░░░░░░░ planning to do the ░░░░░░░░ thing And then we ░░░░░░░░ about having a family ░░░░░░░░ about where we would ░░░░░░░░ to live and how ░░░░░░░░ would like to spend ░░░░░░░░ time and all of ░░░░░░░░ sorts of things From ░░░░░░░░ before he announced his ░░░░░░░░ candidacy through his Senate ░░░░░░░░ we had a lot ░░░░░░░░ serious conversations because we ░░░░░░░░ have three children And ░░░░░░░░ them a stable normal ░░░░░░░░ life and upbring something ░░░░░░░░ that is the most ░░░░░░░░ thing to us The ░░░░░░░░ we saw Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ stage and he was ░░░░░░░░ and then a few ░░░░░░░░ later he announces j ░░░░░░░░ as his running mate ░░░░░░░░ m sure that had ░░░░░░░░ be hard for you ░░░░░░░░ did you get through ░░░░░░░░ Well I mean it ░░░░░░░░ obviously terrible and I ░░░░░░░░ really grateful that President ░░░░░░░░ was all right at ░░░░░░░░ end of it and ░░░░░░░░ course are he had ░░░░░░░░ Secret Service detail looking ░░░░░░░░ for him and able ░░░░░░░░ get off the stage ░░░░░░░░ seeing that was incredibly ░░░░░░░░ I think for everyone ░░░░░░░░ a personal perspective I ░░░░░░░░ I try not to ░░░░░░░░ too much about that ░░░░░░░░ have been really lucky ░░░░░░░░ people who are here ░░░░░░░░ are just amazing And ░░░░░░░░ don t know how ░░░░░░░░ do what they do ░░░░░░░░ Secret Service detail So ░░░░░░░░ just trust in the ░░░░░░░░ that most penal the ░░░░░░░░ majority of people out ░░░░░░░░ would never think of ░░░░░░░░ anything like that And ░░░░░░░░ are a lot of ░░░░░░░░ who have our backs ░░░░░░░░ decide to keep their ░░░░░░░░ out of the press ░░░░░░░░ even off the stage ░░░░░░░░ conventions or at inaugurations ░░░░░░░░ you all talked about ░░░░░░░░ What do you think ░░░░░░░░ will do with the ░░░░░░░░ They weren t very ░░░░░░░░ at the convention They ░░░░░░░░ off sightseeing in Milwaukee ░░░░░░░░ they loved We will ░░░░░░░░ to keep them let ░░░░░░░░ have their lives as ░░░░░░░░ which I think they ░░░░░░░░ deserve And let them ░░░░░░░░ lots of time with ░░░░░░░░ father and if that ░░░░░░░░ sometimes seen by other ░░░░░░░░ great And if it ░░░░░░░░ other times private great ░░░░░░░░ I don t think ░░░░░░░░ expect to make them ░░░░░░░░ real feature of any ░░░░░░░░ this You had represented ░░░░░░░░ d with his convention ░░░░░░░░ and all wrote it ░░░░░░░░ the hotel room and ░░░░░░░░ he helped you with ░░░░░░░░ Without his help because ░░░░░░░░ wanted him to hear ░░░░░░░░ for the first time ░░░░░░░░ I got down there ░░░░░░░░ say it to him ░░░░░░░░ do all sorts of ░░░░░░░░ like that together In ░░░░░░░░ case he worked on ░░░░░░░░ by himself but I ░░░░░░░░ to parts of it ░░░░░░░░ gave him my thoughts ░░░░░░░░ where I thought you ░░░░░░░░ buy thought he might ░░░░░░░░ this or that or ░░░░░░░░ it was missing something ░░░░░░░░ a family story he ░░░░░░░░ want to convey Maybe ░░░░░░░░ had forgotten add that ░░░░░░░░ In that sort of ░░░░░░░░ That s really fun ░░░░░░░░ felt like a lucky ░░░░░░░░ Convention Your speech was ░░░░░░░░ How did you prepare ░░░░░░░░ that What was it ░░░░░░░░ to be on national ░░░░░░░░ and throne into the ░░░░░░░░ thens of thousands of ░░░░░░░░ I was definitely nervous ░░░░░░░░ I found out about ░░░░░░░░ Of course we didn ░░░░░░░░ know we were going ░░░░░░░░ be there a moment ░░░░░░░░ nervousness a little bit ░░░░░░░░ I get out of ░░░░░░░░ I don t know ░░░░░░░░ this is a great ░░░░░░░░ The morning actually of ░░░░░░░░ remarks of the introduction ░░░░░░░░ sat down and just ░░░░░░░░ writing what I would ░░░░░░░░ to say And that ░░░░░░░░ helped Once I had ░░░░░░░░ opportunity to put on ░░░░░░░░ the way that I ░░░░░░░░ about j d and ░░░░░░░░ to say something about ░░░░░░░░ that other people couldn ░░░░░░░░ say then it all ░░░░░░░░ of evaporated So it ░░░░░░░░ kind of fun at ░░░░░░░░ point to think I ░░░░░░░░ going to go say ░░░░░░░░ things and let people ░░░░░░░░ what I think about ░░░░░░░░ and why he is ░░░░░░░░ special And downs of ░░░░░░░░ Are you prepared for ░░░░░░░░ this is a huge ░░░░░░░░ Have you talked to ░░░░░░░░ Have you gotten advice ░░░░░░░░ anyone Various friends who ░░░░░░░░ themselves unexpectedly in the ░░░░░░░░ or honestly faced crises ░░░░░░░░ or other situations that ░░░░░░░░ their plans for their ░░░░░░░░ We have wonderful friends ░░░░░░░░ of whom I have ░░░░░░░░ since I was very ░░░░░░░░ little and they have ░░░░░░░░ been here for us ░░░░░░░░ know what matters to ░░░░░░░░ in our personal lives ░░░░░░░░ our family lives So ░░░░░░░░ on that I think ░░░░░░░░ weather all of these ░░░░░░░░ and downs Advice they ░░░░░░░░ given you Advice that ░░░░░░░░ gave me not to ░░░░░░░░ the news that much ░░░░░░░░ s not burying your ░░░░░░░░ in the sand J ░░░░░░░░ is out there and ░░░░░░░░ all sorts of things ░░░░░░░░ think he deserves to ░░░░░░░░ someone in his life ░░░░░░░░ hears it straight from ░░░░░░░░ and not what somebody ░░░░░░░░ is saying about him ░░░░░░░░ think that helps Negative ░░░░░░░░ How does that effect ░░░░░░░░ You know times sometimes ░░░░░░░░ don t see it ░░░░░░░░ and sometimes I do ░░░░░░░░ it and I look ░░░░░░░░ it and think wow ░░░░░░░░ is not the j ░░░░░░░░ I know This is ░░░░░░░░ accurate And other times ░░░░░░░░ might spawn discussions or ░░░░░░░░ about what we should ░░░░░░░░ next or how we ░░░░░░░░ live But I think ░░░░░░░░ have been doing this ░░░░░░░░ a little while Grown ░░░░░░░░ to it and grown ░░░░░░░░ skin I tried not ░░░░░░░░ let it effect the ░░░░░░░░ that I live Comments ░░░░░░░░ there that I have ░░░░░░░░ ask you about In ░░░░░░░░ j d said we ░░░░░░░░ effectively run by a ░░░░░░░░ of childless cat ladies ░░░░░░░░ aim at government leaders ░░░░░░░░ don t have children ░░░░░░░░ was your action Actually ░░░░░░░░ what he had said ░░░░░░░░ try to understand what ░░░░░░░░ context was and all ░░░░░░░░ which is something I ░░░░░░░░ wish people would do ░░░░░░░░ little more often The ░░░░░░░░ is he made quip ░░░░░░░░ making a point he ░░░░░░░░ to the make that ░░░░░░░░ substantive it Had actually ░░░░░░░░ And I just wish ░░░░░░░░ that penal would talk ░░░░░░░░ those things and that ░░░░░░░░ would spend a lot ░░░░░░░░ time just sort of ░░░░░░░░ through this three word ░░░░░░░░ or that three word ░░░░░░░░ What he was really ░░░░░░░░ it can be really ░░░░░░░░ to be a parent ░░░░░░░░ this country Sometimes our ░░░░░░░░ are designed in a ░░░░░░░░ that make it even ░░░░░░░░ And we should be ░░░░░░░░ ourselves why is that ░░░░░░░░ What is it about ░░░░░░░░ leadership and the way ░░░░░░░░ they think with the ░░░░░░░░ that makes it hard ░░░░░░░░ for parents That s ░░░░░░░░ conversation that I really ░░░░░░░░ we should have And ░░░░░░░░ understand why he was ░░░░░░░░ that The women who ░░░░░░░░ offended or hurt by ░░░░░░░░ All that j d ░░░░░░░░ at the time and ░░░░░░░░ would never ever ever ░░░░░░░░ to say something to ░░░░░░░░ someone who was trying ░░░░░░░░ have a family who ░░░░░░░░ you yo know was ░░░░░░░░ with that he made ░░░░░░░░ clear at the time ░░░░░░░░ has made that clear ░░░░░░░░ And we have lots ░░░░░░░░ friends who have been ░░░░░░░░ that position It is ░░░░░░░░ and never ever anything ░░░░░░░░ anyone would want to ░░░░░░░░ or make fun of ░░░░░░░░ understand there are a ░░░░░░░░ of other reasons why ░░░░░░░░ may choose not to ░░░░░░░░ families Many of those ░░░░░░░░ are very good I ░░░░░░░░ what I would say ░░░░░░░░ let s try to ░░░░░░░░ at the real conversation ░░░░░░░░ he trying to have ░░░░░░░░ engage with it and ░░░░░░░░ for those of us ░░░░░░░░ do have families for ░░░░░░░░ many of us who ░░░░░░░░ to have families and ░░░░░░░░ whom it s really ░░░░░░░░ what can we do ░░░░░░░░ make it better What ░░░░░░░░ we do to make ░░░░░░░░ easier to live in ░░░░░░░░ Hard is it when ░░░░░░░░ read in the newspaper ░░░░░░░░ have a friend in ░░░░░░░░ school Sophia Nelson who ░░░░░░░░ your wedding She transgender ░░░░░░░░ a public defender in ░░░░░░░░ She spoke out last ░░░░░░░░ and she said j ░░░░░░░░ hates the police That ░░░░░░░░ d had told her ░░░░░░░░ he hates the police ░░░░░░░░ he felt like minorities ░░░░░░░░ being treated unfairly Will ░░░░░░░░ explain that to us ░░░░░░░░ he hate the police ░░░░░░░░ he say something like ░░░░░░░░ Very closely at what ░░░░░░░░ email correspondence was so ░░░░░░░░ don t know exactly ░░░░░░░░ it said J d ░░░░░░░░ does not hate the ░░░░░░░░ I think that is ░░░░░░░░ through his career and ░░░░░░░░ you know he maybe ░░░░░░░░ a negative interaction once ░░░░░░░░ twice and made you ░░░░░░░░ a remark like that ░░░░░░░░ don t know But ░░░░░░░░ then and always as ░░░░░░░░ as I have known ░░░░░░░░ he has had a ░░░░░░░░ deal of respect for ░░░░░░░░ and everything they do ░░░░░░░░ keep us safe Yes ░░░░░░░░ is hard to know ░░░░░░░░ sometimes politics comes in ░░░░░░░░ way of friendships and ░░░░░░░░ know we I think ░░░░░░░░ d made this clear ░░░░░░░░ his own response It ░░░░░░░░ hurtful and it is ░░░░░░░░ And the only thing ░░░░░░░░ I would say is ░░░░░░░░ we ve both been ░░░░░░░░ a position of having ░░░░░░░░ speculate bus a lot ░░░░░░░░ draw a lot of ░░░░░░░░ based on sometimes information ░░░░░░░░ isn t even true ░░░░░░░░ I don t want ░░░░░░░░ do the same about ░░░░░░░░ people and these are ░░░░░░░░ that I care about ░░░░░░░░ can t speak to ░░░░░░░░ they say what they ░░░░░░░░ or do what they ░░░░░░░░ but I care about ░░░░░░░░ and wish them well ░░░░░░░░ both of you now ░░░░░░░░ past comments you had ░░░░░░░░ about Trump Idiot if ░░░░░░░░ oat voted for him ░░░░░░░░ might be America s ░░░░░░░░ Later he said he ░░░░░░░░ wrong He admitted and ░░░░░░░░ said he didn t ░░░░░░░░ that Donald Trump would ░░░░░░░░ a good president at ░░░░░░░░ time But he said ░░░░░░░░ ended up being a ░░░░░░░░ president How do you ░░░░░░░░ now about Donald Trump ░░░░░░░░ years since then to ░░░░░░░░ of understand what it ░░░░░░░░ that he is out ░░░░░░░░ do Honestly what j ░░░░░░░░ is out to do ░░░░░░░░ have a lot of ░░░░░░░░ good conversations about that ░░░░░░░░ if I didn t ░░░░░░░░ that the ticket you ░░░░░░░░ the Trump Vance ticket ░░░░░░░░ able to do some ░░░░░░░░ good for the country ░░░░░░░░ I wouldn t be ░░░░░░░░ supporting him and j ░░░░░░░░ wouldn t have down ░░░░░░░░ That s where we ░░░░░░░░ today Do you and ░░░░░░░░ d agree on everything ░░░░░░░░ We re two different ░░░░░░░░ We have lots of ░░░░░░░░ background and interests and ░░░░░░░░ like that So we ░░░░░░░░ to different conclusions all ░░░░░░░░ time But that s ░░░░░░░░ of the fun of ░░░░░░░░ married And what I ░░░░░░░░ doubt about j d ░░░░░░░░ when I disagree about ░░░░░░░░ or that is his ░░░░░░░░ What it is that ░░░░░░░░ really wants to do ░░░░░░░░ I really trust that ░░░░░░░░ him Sometimes he might ░░░░░░░░ I think this and ░░░░░░░░ think that And I ░░░░░░░░ that probably makes things ░░░░░░░░ for him and certainly ░░░░░░░░ me His opinions because ░░░░░░░░ your advice Seriousness and ░░░░░░░░ That becomes a part ░░░░░░░░ the way that he ░░░░░░░░ about things as is ░░░░░░░░ for me The way ░░░░░░░░ he talks about things ░░░░░░░░ the conclusions he documents ░░░░░░░░ shape the way that ░░░░░░░░ think about things So ░░░░░░░░ s a nice give ░░░░░░░░ take that I think ░░░░░░░░ s pretty happy Happy ░░░░░░░░ J d s life ░░░░░░░░ met in law school ░░░░░░░░ and then went to ░░░░░░░░ and law school that ░░░░░░░░ where you met Circumstances ░░░░░░░░ were just friends All ░░░░░░░░ classes together in the ░░░░░░░░ semester As time passed ░░░░░░░░ eventually we started dating ░░░░░░░░ it was a very ░░░░░░░░ of normal quiet First ░░░░░░░░ wasn t too far ░░░░░░░░ Did you study together ░░░░░░░░ help each other get ░░░░░░░░ law school We did ░░░░░░░░ lot of stuff together ░░░░░░░░ we were always hanging ░░░░░░░░ Military experience in the ░░░░░░░░ how did that shape ░░░░░░░░ life To live and ░░░░░░░░ himself as an adult ░░░░░░░░ he hadn t had ░░░░░░░░ There was that I ░░░░░░░░ the process of becoming ░░░░░░░░ a family with people ░░░░░░░░ all around the country ░░░░░░░░ of whom who just ░░░░░░░░ different background than him ░░░░░░░░ are some his best ░░░░░░░░ today Importance of family ░░░░░░░░ society has been part ░░░░░░░░ his platform Can you ░░░░░░░░ that Why is that ░░░░░░░░ to him Background It ░░░░░░░░ from the fact that ░░░░░░░░ knows that he would ░░░░░░░░ be anywhere near where ░░░░░░░░ is today if he ░░░░░░░░ t had family members ░░░░░░░░ out for him every ░░░░░░░░ the way I think ░░░░░░░░ comes from seeing my ░░░░░░░░ and knowing that the ░░░░░░░░ and calm that I ░░░░░░░░ in our family life ░░░░░░░░ from you know all ░░░░░░░░ the support that I ░░░░░░░░ just the faith that ░░░░░░░░ would be okay because ░░░░░░░░ had people behind me ░░░░░░░░ think that j d ░░░░░░░░ family to thrive I ░░░░░░░░ I think that maybe ░░░░░░░░ most important thing is ░░░░░░░░ know that he has ░░░░░░░░ who everyday when he ░░░░░░░░ back love him and ░░░░░░░░ about him And know ░░░░░░░░ he is And frankly ░░░░░░░░ is the most important ░░░░░░░░ And that s true ░░░░░░░░ me too I mean ░░░░░░░░ s how I get ░░░░░░░░ my days and how ░░░░░░░░ have been able to ░░░░░░░░ the life that I ░░░░░░░░ Than anyone And America ░░░░░░░░ just learning about J ░░░░░░░░ Vance What do you ░░░░░░░░ them to know about ░░░░░░░░ husband That he is ░░░░░░░░ real person You know ░░░░░░░░ is a wonderful father ░░░░░░░░ is an excellent husband ░░░░░░░░ s my best friend ░░░░░░░░ is funny He has ░░░░░░░░ sorts of dorky interests ░░░░░░░░ you know anyone of ░░░░░░░░ age could relate to ░░░░░░░░ look at the news ░░░░░░░░ and you just she ░░░░░░░░ of a human And ░░░░░░░░ is a really good ░░░░░░░░ And I wish that ░░░░░░░░ sometimes would pause and ░░░░░░░░ listened to the words ░░░░░░░░ he says try to ░░░░░░░░ their meaning and their ░░░░░░░░ I think he really ░░░░░░░░ about having a good ░░░░░░░░ about actually changing things ░░░░░░░░ people who have had ░░░░░░░░ very hard time in ░░░░░░░░ country And changing it ░░░░░░░░ the better Letting them ░░░░░░░░ the kinds of lives ░░░░░░░░ he has been lucky ░░░░░░░░ to have himself.
