DeSantis: Leadership Is Not Entertainment, It Is About Producing Results

DeSantis What you find ░░░░░░░░ is you know you ░░░░░░░░ elected to office and ░░░░░░░░ re all important but ░░░░░░░░ you re in an ░░░░░░░░ position yeah you got ░░░░░░░░ be right on policy ░░░░░░░░ mean obviously we see ░░░░░░░░ president now is wrong ░░░░░░░░ all these policies it ░░░░░░░░ hurting the country you ░░░░░░░░ to be right on ░░░░░░░░ policy But that s ░░░░░░░░ enough You got to ░░░░░░░░ the leadership And if ░░░░░░░░ re there and you ░░░░░░░░ kind of think right ░░░░░░░░ the policy but you ░░░░░░░░ not a leader you ░░░░░░░░ ultimately not going to ░░░░░░░░ effective And so during ░░░░░░░░ you know it fell ░░░░░░░░ everybody in executive positions ░░░░░░░░ make decisions about how ░░░░░░░░ were going to handle ░░░░░░░░ And I can tell ░░░░░░░░ in Florida when we ░░░░░░░░ that we would chart ░░░░░░░░ own course that we ░░░░░░░░ buck the elites that ░░░░░░░░ would buck the bureaucracy ░░░░░░░░ media the left even ░░░░░░░░ Republicans we faced a ░░░░░░░░ of blowback for that ░░░░░░░░ were getting hammered every ░░░░░░░░ They were going after ░░░░░░░░ And really they were ░░░░░░░░ to kneecap me for ░░░░░░░░ And I had a ░░░░░░░░ of supporters that were ░░░░░░░░ the time just like ░░░░░░░░ like I know you ░░░░░░░░ know you feel strongly ░░░░░░░░ this but you re ░░░░░░░░ re you re getting ░░░░░░░░ and you re not ░░░░░░░░ to be long for ░░░░░░░░ world politically if you ░░░░░░░░ this up You may ░░░░░░░░ to reverse course And ░░░░░░░░ know at the end ░░░░░░░░ the day as a ░░░░░░░░ you got to be ░░░░░░░░ to look in that ░░░░░░░░ and be honest with ░░░░░░░░ are you doing the ░░░░░░░░ things for the right ░░░░░░░░ or are you not ░░░░░░░░ if you re curtailing ░░░░░░░░ you think is right ░░░░░░░░ you worried about short ░░░░░░░░ political ramifications that is ░░░░░░░░ leadership So I had ░░░░░░░░ make the decision that ░░░░░░░░ the commitment that I ░░░░░░░░ going to care more ░░░░░░░░ protecting the jobs of ░░░░░░░░ people I represented than ░░░░░░░░ my own And if ░░░░░░░░ didn t work out ░░░░░░░░ me politically so be ░░░░░░░░ That s the cost ░░░░░░░░ leadership You got to ░░░░░░░░ what s right even ░░░░░░░░ the face of intense ░░░░░░░░ even in the face ░░░░░░░░ mountains of opposition indeed ░░░░░░░░ if you have to ░░░░░░░░ all alone to do ░░░░░░░░ s right And so ░░░░░░░░ s what we did ░░░░░░░░ you know what happens ░░░░░░░░ I was getting hit ░░░░░░░░ was it was a ░░░░░░░░ patch But people see ░░░░░░░░ digging in for them ░░░░░░░░ see that you re ░░░░░░░░ going to back down ░░░░░░░░ that they can count ░░░░░░░░ you and when they ░░░░░░░░ you re willing to ░░░░░░░░ for them man they ░░░░░░░░ walk over broken glass ░░░░░░░░ to support you And ░░░░░░░░ s exactly what they ░░░░░░░░ for me in the ░░░░░░░░ of Florida Applause Leadership ░░░░░░░░ also not entertainment It ░░░░░░░░ not about building a ░░░░░░░░ It s not about ░░░░░░░░ signaling It is about ░░░░░░░░ results for the people ░░░░░░░░ you represent And in ░░░░░░░░ we have produced those ░░░░░░░░ We are the nation ░░░░░░░░ fastest growing state We ░░░░░░░░ the nation in net ░░░░░░░░ migration and have every ░░░░░░░░ since I ve been ░░░░░░░░ We were just ranked ░░░░░░░░ one in education by ░░░░░░░░ S News and World ░░░░░░░░ We are number one ░░░░░░░░ education freedom We are ░░░░░░░░ one and parental involvement ░░░░░░░░ education Our crime rate ░░░░░░░░ at a 50 year ░░░░░░░░ And we have the ░░░░░░░░ lowest tax and debt ░░░░░░░░ capita anywhere in the ░░░░░░░░ States And so leadership ░░░░░░░░ And we decided as ░░░░░░░░ that we would dig ░░░░░░░░ and be an energetic ░░░░░░░░ and take on issues ░░░░░░░░ go on offense and ░░░░░░░░ just sit back like ░░░░░░░░ potted plant and not ░░░░░░░░ to get your hands ░░░░░░░░ Because you know every ░░░░░░░░ you make a decision ░░░░░░░░ a leader some people ░░░░░░░░ it but some people ░░░░░░░░ t So the fewer ░░░░░░░░ you make in some ░░░░░░░░ the fewer people you ░░░░░░░░ end up alienating But ░░░░░░░░ s not what a ░░░░░░░░ does The leaders got ░░░░░░░░ do what they think ░░░░░░░░ right and what the ░░░░░░░░ the state or the ░░░░░░░░ needs So here s ░░░░░░░░ some of the things ░░░░░░░░ ve been able to ░░░░░░░░ in Florida Because I ░░░░░░░░ it s important Republicans ░░░░░░░░ talk these great games ░░░░░░░░ my whole adult life ░░░░░░░░ ve been talking Really ░░░░░░░░ President Reagan they ve ░░░░░░░░ saying they were going ░░░░░░░░ do all these things ░░░░░░░░ how much of it ░░░░░░░░ comes to fruition Not ░░░░░░░░ as much as we ░░░░░░░░ to So in the ░░░░░░░░ of Florida we ve ░░░░░░░░ legislation prohibiting the purchase ░░░░░░░░ land by the CCP ░░░░░░░░ other related entities.” (Applause)
