Smith All right let ░░░░░░░░ bring in Byron York ░░░░░░░░ political correspondent for The ░░░░░░░░ Examiner and a Fox ░░░░░░░░ contributor Byron it s ░░░░░░░░ to see you So ░░░░░░░░ us in here what ░░░░░░░░ we need to know ░░░░░░░░ we inch towards the ░░░░░░░░ elections You are looking ░░░░░░░░ the fact that Democrats ░░░░░░░░ strengthened quite a bit ░░░░░░░░ in just the last ░░░░░░░░ or so as many ░░░░░░░░ identifying But what does ░░░░░░░░ mean for control of ░░░░░░░░ House What are you ░░░░░░░░ YORK Well I really ░░░░░░░░ you have to look ░░░░░░░░ these midterm elections just ░░░░░░░░ two different ways One ░░░░░░░░ far as the House ░░░░░░░░ concerned I think it ░░░░░░░░ looks pretty good for ░░░░░░░░ As far as the ░░░░░░░░ is concerned there is ░░░░░░░░ no way to tell ░░░░░░░░ should have a pretty ░░░░░░░░ situation to take control ░░░░░░░░ the Senate this year ░░░░░░░░ they have some candidates ░░░░░░░░ are performing poorly Herschel ░░░░░░░░ in Georgia Dr Oz ░░░░░░░░ Pennsylvania and they are ░░░░░░░░ in the polls there ░░░░░░░░ it s entirely possible ░░░░░░░░ Democrats could either keep ░░░░░░░░ 50 50 tie and ░░░░░░░░ operational control that they ░░░░░░░░ in the Senate right ░░░░░░░░ or actually win the ░░░░░░░░ outright in November Smith ░░░░░░░░ interesting I was gone ░░░░░░░░ the past week Byron ░░░░░░░░ that does not mean ░░░░░░░░ did not keep up ░░░░░░░░ your pieces in The ░░░░░░░░ Examiner and you wrote ░░░░░░░░ how Biden is still ░░░░░░░░ down his party his ░░░░░░░░ down You say there ░░░░░░░░ been a surge of ░░░░░░░░ among Democrats lately when ░░░░░░░░ comes to the midterm ░░░░░░░░ The short version of ░░░░░░░░ thinking is you write ░░░░░░░░ we are not going ░░░░░░░░ get clobbered after all ░░░░░░░░ much of their hope ░░░░░░░░ still likely in vain ░░░░░░░░ one reason President Joe ░░░░░░░░ Can they be as ░░░░░░░░ as they hope if ░░░░░░░░ president continues down this ░░░░░░░░ of complete unpopularity YORK ░░░░░░░░ I don t think ░░░░░░░░ As a matter of ░░░░░░░░ I think presidential job ░░░░░░░░ is one of the ░░░░░░░░ indicators predictors of how ░░░░░░░░ party will do in ░░░░░░░░ elections And first of ░░░░░░░░ first term presidents usually ░░░░░░░░ seats in the House ░░░░░░░░ their first midterms they ░░░░░░░░ almost always do We ░░░░░░░░ had a couple of ░░░░░░░░ one was in 2002 ░░░░░░░░ the country was at ░░░░░░░░ after September 11th with ░░░░░░░░ W Bush and Bush ░░░░░░░░ picked up some seats ░░░░░░░░ other was just four ░░░░░░░░ earlier 1998 during the ░░░░░░░░ scandal in which Republicans ░░░░░░░░ impeaching President Bill Clinton ░░░░░░░░ the public did not ░░░░░░░░ that Clinton had a ░░░░░░░░ high approval rating and ░░░░░░░░ party actually picked up ░░░░░░░░ Every other time in ░░░░░░░░ and decades the president ░░░░░░░░ party loses seats and ░░░░░░░░ when the president s ░░░░░░░░ approval is low below ░░░░░░░░ Joe Biden is about ░░░░░░░░ 42 right now That ░░░░░░░░ a little better than ░░░░░░░░ was a couple months ░░░░░░░░ two ago when it ░░░░░░░░ down to 37 or ░░░░░░░░ But still that is ░░░░░░░░ the range of job ░░░░░░░░ that leads to a ░░░░░░░░ loss in midterm elections ░░░░░░░░ And finally can you ░░░░░░░░ us your thoughts on ░░░░░░░░ performance so far of ░░░░░░░░ president Donald Trump s ░░░░░░░░ how they are doing ░░░░░░░░ so far and what ░░░░░░░░ influence will be on ░░░░░░░░ Republican Party for the ░░░░░░░░ elections YORK Well I ░░░░░░░░ in a couple of ░░░░░░░░ Trump s picks are ░░░░░░░░ in the polls perhaps ░░░░░░░░ as far ahead as ░░░░░░░░ should be J D ░░░░░░░░ is ahead in the ░░░░░░░░ in Ohio but some ░░░░░░░░ the other ones are ░░░░░░░░ struggling right now Herschel ░░░░░░░░ is struggling right now ░░░░░░░░ Oz is struggling against ░░░░░░░░ Fetterman who has really ░░░░░░░░ run an in person ░░░░░░░░ since May and still ░░░░░░░░ is having a good ░░░░░░░░ of trouble there So ░░░░░░░░ know remember the test ░░░░░░░░ Trump we all talked ░░░░░░░░ how strongly his candidates ░░░░░░░░ in Republican primaries and ░░░░░░░░ that is the test ░░░░░░░░ the bigger test is ░░░░░░░░ they actually win office ░░░░░░░░ that s going to ░░░░░░░░ the big thing and ░░░░░░░░ if President Trump s ░░░░░░░░ do not help Republicans ░░░░░░░░ the Senate there are ░░░░░░░░ to be a lot ░░░░░░░░ angry Republicans about it.”
