Pence on Manning Commutation: ‘a Mistake; Private Manning Is a Traitor’
RUSH EXCERPT:
BAIER: "Some Democrats and Republicans have not been proud of the decision to commute the sentence of Chelsea manning. We are learning the top leaders in the army said they did not want that to happen."
PENCE: "To commute private Mannings sentence was a mistake. Private manning is a traitor and should not have been turned into a murder, as senator Cotten said. Private Mannings actions compromise our national security, endangered American personnel down range, compromised individuals in Afghanistan who were cooperating with our forces, by leaking 750,000 documents to Wikileaks. The simple fact is that I disagree very strongly with the president’s decision to commute private manning’s sentence. We have to be so serious on the subject of protecting our nation’s secrets. And so we will register strong disagreement with that, and our administration coming in, I can assure you as you have heard the president-elect say, going to be committed to protecting our nation’s secrets."
