Clinton: We Can Force Drug Companies to Lower Prices Without Hurting Research

"I'm proud that our drug companies invent drugs to cure really terrible diseases and treat chronic diseases, I'm proud of that. But let's be clear, your tax dollars help support the research that is used to create those drugs in the first place. (Applause) Your tax dollars support the Food and Drug Administration that test those drugs to determine whether or not they are safe and effective to be able to go to market, and then we end up in America paying the highest price for those drugs that we have helped to create. We have got to take this on and we can do it without hurting research and discovery and new drugs and new devices." (Applause)
