RASKIN: “Well, the framers established what every citizen ultimately knows and every bureaucrat knows that the power of the purse, the power to control the money is the ultimate leverage within government. And so far, it’s been Mike Johnson and the Senate Republicans who’ve controlled the power of the purse. We’ve not been able to cut them off. We control every dollar that’s spent in the White House and in the Department of Justice. Now, that’s our power. We’ve got the power of oversight. The Supreme Court has repeatedly stated that it is crucial to the process of legislation, because we’ve got to know what’s going on in government and what’s going on in society.”
