Stacey Abrams: ‘Authoritarianism in the United States Is Called Competitive Authoritarianism Because It Looks Like Democracy’

‘It wears democracy’s clothes’

RUSH EXCERPT:

ABRAMS: "And so we have to understand that the new shift, the new battlefield, will be our states. We have 45 legislative chambers that are now in control of Democrats. There are 99 chambers, but there are we are all Americans. And this is no longer a conversation of Democrats versus Republicans. This is about authoritarians versus patriots. And as ava pointed out when she reached out to Republicans to say, please be a part of a conversation about one of our nation’s strongest decisions, the 14th Amendment, most said no more than 300 said no. What that signals to me is that this is not about politics as usual. Authoritarianism in the United States is called competitive authoritarianism because it looks like democracy. It wears democracy’s clothes. But the 10 steps campaign and the fight against authoritarianism says that we have to look at what they do, not what they call themselves."
