Beto O’Rourke on Dems Retaking Power in Texas: ‘It’s a Brand New Day in the State of Texas’

‘There’s a little bit of guarded optimism as these numbers start to roll in’

EXCERPT:

O'ROURKE: "And then when we got the news the next morning that we had won a majority in the state House, it really, Nicolle, it’s a brand new day in the state of Texas. And I’m just so happy because there have been so many of us. I’m one of literally hundreds of thousands who have been working on this for so long. I mean, think about Wendy Davis in 2014, 12 years ago, putting herself out there and taking a chance, leaving her state Senate seat to run for governor against Greg Abbott in that year. Think about the folks running down ballot for county offices and state rep who may not have won their races, but laid the groundwork, brought in new voters, carried the message, culminating in what we saw Tuesday night. And then last thing, James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa are just — that’s the strongest one-two punch Texas Democrats have ever thrown. And not only did they win, they’re now in positions of power to really deliver for the people of Texas. And that, of course, is the most exciting part of all of this.”
